Unless you are lucky enough to have friends in the wedding industry with lots of contacts, finding vendors for your wedding can be a little overwhelming. There are a lot of individuals and companies who will have large roles to play in making your wedding a success and knowing how to find quality businesses is essential.
I am going to share three websites with you that were extremely helpful when I was planning my own weddings. I was lucky enough to source amazing photographers, musicians, florists, makeup artists, bridal accessories, reception venues and even our marriage celebrant online. They all came with glowing reviews from other brides, which was especially fabulous for me planning weddings from afar.
I first started researching vendors on Yelp. Yelp is a great resource for anyone wanting to see reviews from others on a wide range of services and businesses. I was lucky enough to find our amazing New Orleans photographer, acoustic musicians and second line band all on Yelp. I always take the stray negative review with a grain of salt on this website in case someone just turned a bad day or miscommunication into a one star review. I couldn’t recommend this website more highly though. I use it nearly every day!
Another website I used to find American wedding vendors was The Knot. You can search by category and city, state or zip code. They have a great varied list of categories including DJs, hotels, calligraphers, dance lessons and menswear (to name just a few!). After you select a category and location, search results appear with reviews from other brides and grooms – stars out of 5 – and a general price guide. I was able to find our reception venue and florist from this website for our ceremony. The Knot is also a great general resource for many other wedding-related tools, such as ideas and etiquette, dresses, jewellery and “real wedding” stories.
For Australian brides, Easy Weddings has a fabulous wedding directory. You can start your search by location or category. Similar to The Knot, this site has a huge selection of vendors who have been reviewed by other couples. I used this website to search for photographers, reception venues and musicians for our Brisbane wedding. Easy Weddings also have fantastic planning tools for your big day, such as a budget planner, seating planner and a to-do list.
When we found and used vendors via these websites, I have always tried to ‘pay it forward’ by writing my own review. This lets the vendor know how much we appreciated their services and also helps future brides and grooms in their own planning and research.
Have you used any other website to find wedding vendors? What were your experiences? Let me know in the comments below!
