As you may have read from previous posts, I recently attended the Bay Area Wedding Fair. Eating cake and really, most sweet treats, is one of my top ten favourite pastimes (okay, okay, top three). So of course, one of the highlights of that day was getting to see (and more importantly, taste) some amazing wedding cakes and desserts.
I wanted to give a special mention to two local vendors, Cakemaru and Desserts by Nicolen V. I was lucky enough to taste-test at both their stalls and left wishing I could have a wedding again just to eat their sweet goodies!
Cakemaru had amazing wedding cakes on display and they were as much works of art as they were tasty cakes. Maru, the baker, is beyond talented and her vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream icing and chocolate cake with caramel buttercream icing left me wanting more. The cakes had incredibly detailed decorations, including edible flowers and faux chalkboard icing and they can be made big enough to feed an army – well, nearly! The cakes are custom-made so there are shapes/colours/flavours/decorations to match any wedding theme. Maru also bakes cupcakes and cookies for weddings and big events. Check out her brilliant work here.
My other favourite of the day, Desserts by Nicolen V. had a spectacular range of specialty cakepops and mini desserts (cookies, brownies, cheesecake bites, macarons, just to name a few!). There was also another fabulous wedding idea – a make-your-own s’mores table, complete with a mini-gasburner! I tried a butter pecan cakepop and was raving about it all day long! Not only are the desserts pretty to look at, but they are super delish too. I particularly loved the look of my cakepop – cream with gold sprinkles – which would fit right into a gold/glitter theme for your big day. Nicolen started out making cake pops and now does all this great event baking in her spare time, which is most admirable in my books! Please check out her website here.
Are you a dessert lover like me? What did you love about your wedding cake? Have you considered doing a dessert bar for your reception? Please let me know in the comments below!
