Our (first) wedding took place on June 24th 2012 under a leafy green tree in Jackson Square in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was a sweltering hot and humid summer day, but I couldn’t have cared less – I was so excited and happy.
Simon and I decided to hold our wedding in New Orleans because we had visited the previous November and saw a number of weddings take place. They looked so fun, full of music and had an incredibly unique feel to them. Instead of staying in San Francisco to get married, we decided it would be a great idea to have a destination wedding instead. We had a small number of German, Australian and American family and friends attend and it was a long weekend of love for us all.
I wore a simple (and altered) Alfred Sung scoop-neck champagne dress, a birdcage veil and Kate Spade accessories, including a statement necklace with ribbon tie. Simon wore a black Hugo Boss suit from Nordstrom. I purchased royal blue ties from Dessy for the Best Man and Bridesman (our brothers). My bouquet was made up of blue hydrangeas and cream roses in honour of my grandparents, who grew hydrangeas in their front yard while I was growing up.
Our ceremony was personal, intimate and exactly what we wanted. We had both sets of parents stand with us as our American family read ‘The Hand Ceremony’. We had instrumental music – guitar and violin (perfect combo) – playing some of our favourite songs. I walked down the aisle to ‘At Last’ by Etta James and we walked out to ‘Happy Together’ by the Turtles. We had a second line parade throughout the streets of the French Quarter, which was an unforgettable experience. Yes, we were ridiculously hot (melting, even) but singing and dancing through the historic French Quarter with a brass band and a police escort was fabulous.
After all that parading, we held an informal reception dinner at the NOLA restaurant. I will never ever forget their fried chicken and above-and-beyond service. We were all surprised when we were told it was closing time – we just had such a blast there together enjoying the food, wine and company. The day was one of the best in my life to date – fun, happy, beautiful and it ran completely smoothly, thanks to our SPECTACULAR vendors. Thank you to each and every one of you – you made everything so easy and we so appreciated your hard work and assistance.
Our photographers, Sandra and Sam from Eau Claire Photographics were beyond incredible. I could not recommend them highly enough and every time I look at the images from that day, I am transported back. Thank you so much again and thank you for letting me share these images on my blog!
