Last week we were on holidays at the Sunshine Coast. Now, those of you who are parents probably know that “holiday” takes on a new meaning when you have a toddler to chase and tantrums to deal with. Nevertheless, we had a lovely time taking long walks, swimming and exploring the area together.
On one particularly hot day, we decided to take our little family off on an adventure. Since I was a little girl, I’d seen signs for The Ginger Factory in Yandina from the highway and always wondered what it was like. We had a quick glance at the website, saw that it had some baby-friendly activities and most importantly had shady places to relax in, and off we went.
As it turns out, not only is this a great place for a day out, it would also make an amazing venue for a wedding or special event. There are tall leafy trees, a lake, a gorgeous vintage train (that takes you on a 15 minute ride around the entire site), native plants and gardens, resident chickens, old-time little shops and several spaces you can hire.
My favourite would have to be the Piazza, pictured above with the orange VW van crowned in florals. It’s a large undercover area with huge fans (that also spray cool mist on a warm day – heaven during an enthusiastic burst on the dance floor), a view of the lovely grounds and plenty of room to house all your guests. There are five different venues (both indoor and outdoor) that you can hire, all with their own unique flair. I love that you can bring your own styling and taste to add to the existing beauty there – I was imagining twinkling fairy lights, lanterns with glowing candles, stunning metallic table settings and personal touches like framed photos…
The rates are very very reasonable and budget-friendly and there are food and beverage packages available too. If you’re interested in this ‘hidden gem’ of a venue, check out the website (there’s a ‘functions’ page) and organise a visit! Don’t forget to try the gingerbread men and ginger ice cream (we liked the gingerbread biscuit flavour – YUM).
Thank you so much to my in-house photographer, Simon Boots Photography.
Can’t wait to share more ‘hidden gems’ with you in 2017. Abby xx
